MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 27 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N FEBRUARY 20, 2008
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE

ON MOTION (No. 30-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves council minutes of February 6, 2008, as presented. CARRIED

Representatives from Great Lakes Power Limited spoke to council about a number of issues and initiatives of the company.

Planning intern Jennifer Moran reviewed two draft official plan policies with council.

ON MOTION (No. 31-08) of Donna Connolly, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves road accounts to January 31, 2008 as presented in the amount of $15,863.00. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 32-08) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council approves general accounts to February 20, 2008 as presented in the amount of $18,707.94. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 33-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council names Suzanne Evoy as 2007 Volunteer of the Year, and recognizes her at the Thank-you Dinner, as discussed. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 34-08) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Donna Connolly that council endorses resolution of Township of Greater Madawaska regarding logging on crown lands. CARRIED

It was the consensus of council to extend the time of planning intern in 2008 budget.

ON MOTION (No. 35-08) of Donna Connolly, seconded by Todd Rydall that council contributes $100.00 to Living Literacy Committee for assistance with a conference celebrating literacy in youth from our 6 local elementary schools. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 36-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Donna Connolly that council endorses resolution of Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands in petitioning the Provincial Government assume ownership of all municipal drinking water systems within the Province. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 37-08) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council endorses resolution of Township of Machar petitioning the Provincial Government to properly fund English Public Schools in Northern Ontario, to the extent needed to keep them open and operational in safe repair. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 38-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council endorses resolution of Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus in petitioning the Provincial Government to provide compensating revenue to the municipalities of Ontario that have been negatively impacted by the transition from the Farm Tax Rebate Program to the agricultural property rate reduction program. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 39-08) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Donna Connolly that council approves By-law Number 872-08 setting intern tax rates. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 40-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Donna Connolly that council commits $5,000 out of the Reserve Fund, to the North Shore Agricultural Society for purposes of supporting programs at its 2008 annual fair. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 41-08) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Donna Connolly that council responds to the Town of Spanish's Pre-feasibility Study-Waste Thermal Processing Plan Questionnaire as discussed. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 42-08) of Donna Connolly, seconded by Wayne Junor that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
