MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 28 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N MARCH 5, 2008
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

Johnson Township Mayor Edith Orr spoke to council about the Desbarats arena, and the problems the municipality is facing regarding funding. A meeting may be called in the future inviting area municipalities to participate in a problem solving session.

Leroy Wood spoke to council about purchasing the old municipal grader. He would like to restore it.

Planning Intern Jennifer Moran reviewed Mineral Aggregates Act and Ministry of Natural Resources requirements regarding aggregates and wetlands.

ON MOTION (No. 43-08) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Wayne Junor that council contract with Great Lakes Power to move pole on Government Road for an estimated cost of $2,350.00 CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 44-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves council minutes of February 20, 2008 and recreation committee minutes of February 26, 2008, as presented. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 45-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves general accounts to March 5, 2008 as presented in the amount of $11,473.61. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 46-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council endorses Town of Newmarket request regarding disabled parking permits and parking spaces. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 47-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council endorses resolution of Town of Amherstburg in petitioning the provincial government provide funds to Ontario municipalities to finance the costs of the mandated lead testing for municipal drinking water. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 48-08) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Wayne Junor that council endorses City of Woodstock in petitioning the Provincial Government eliminate tax capping and replace it with an equitable system based on current assessment values. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 49-08) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Wayne Junor that council endorses Town of Milton in petitioning the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to review role of security deposits for pit/quarry rehabilitation, re-instate security deposits, and review role of OSSGA and TOARC in regard to rehabilitation and security deposits toward determining if this role has been in the public good. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 50-08) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Wayne Junor that council endorses Niagara Region concerns regarding proposed formula regarding representation in House of Commons. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 51-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council corresponds with Robert Lawrence regarding high speed internet service. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 52-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council closes the next portion of the meeting to the public to discuss a personal issue. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 53-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council returns to open meeting. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 54-08) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council honours park committee contract for its third year grass cutting and garbage removal with Janice Catling, and respects fairgrounds management board's recommendation regarding grass cutting in approving Roy Brockelbank for grass cutting at the fairgrounds as well as grass cutting and maintenance at the cemetery. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 55-08) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Wayne Junor that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
