MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 59 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N SEPTEMBER 2, 2009
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

ON MOTION (No. 196-09) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves minutes of August 19, 2009, as presented. CARRIED

Jennifer Moran reported to council on mapping issues regarding Official Plan.

Road Superintendent Mike Hunter will review Cloudy Lake Road with Macdonald Township Road Superintendent and council will discuss same with Macdonald Township council.

ON MOTION (No. 197-09) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council advises East Algoma Chiefs Mayors and Reeves Council that it feels as Sault Ste. Marie presently has a facilitator working on the rail issue, and is doing so at no cost to our municipalities, council does not wish to contribute to this initiative. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 198-09) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Donna Connolly that council endorses resolution of the Town of New Tecumseth in petitioning the Provincial Government consider that the GST and PST harmonization not include any items, goods or services that are currently subject to only one of the taxes not be subject to the other, so that no new taxation is created. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 199-09) of Donna Connolly, seconded by Wayne Junor that council authorizes attendance of Clerk and Planning Assistant at the MMAH Planning Conference in Sudbury, September 21-23/09. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 200-09) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council authorizes attendance of staff at the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers annual fall workshop in Mattawa, October 28-30/09. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 201-09) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Todd Rydall WHEREAS greater numbers of sand hill cranes are being experienced in farming locales, and WHEREAS these large birds can destroy all or large portions of seeded fields at great expense to landowners, NOW THEREFORE be it resolved that the Council of the Township of Laird requests the Algoma District Municipal Association take its concerns to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to seek compensation for this and similar acts of destruction by wildlife. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 202-09) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Donna Connolly that council approves B-law 892-09 authorizing the Mayor and Clerk sign Infrastructure Stimulus Fund Agreement with the Province of Ontario.

ON MOTION (No. 203-09) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Donna Connolly that council authorizes installation of high speed internet services for the administrative office. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 204-09) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Donna Connolly that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
