THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N FEBRUARY 17, 2010
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

ON MOTION (No. 24-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves council minutes of February 3, and recreation committee minutes of January 26, 2010, as presented. CARRIED

Fire Chief Catling spoke to council about safety training, newsletters and smoke detectors.

Proposed improvements to Town Line Road were discussed. It was the consensus of council that it would focus on Bar River Road realignment this year, and visit Town Line Road matters later.

ON MOTION (No. 25-10) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Donna Connolly that council approves submission to amalgamated tender as presented. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 26-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council authorizes Tulloch Engineering complete necessary changes to proposed Bar River road realignment and commence environmental assessment process. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 27-10) of Donna Connolly, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves road accounts to January 31, 2010 as presented in the amount of $16,644.10. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 28-10) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council approves general accounts to February 17, 2010 as presented in the amount of $57,777.19. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 29-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Donna Connolly that council redraft By-law 895-09 as discussed. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 30-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves By-law Number 896-10, setting 2010 interim tax rates. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 31-10) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council supports concerns of City of Temiskaming Shores regarding what it sees as the selling out of Northern Ontario to foreign interests. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 32-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council supports the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities in petitioning the Federal and Provincial Governments to make securing the long-term sustainability and dependability of the Northeastern Ontario economy a key priority. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 33-10) of Donna Connolly, seconded by Todd Rydall that council advises the Tarbutt and Tarbutt Additional Fire Department that it appreciates its assistance, its concerns with regard to its aging equipment and Laird Township's position regarding fire services. As the Echo Bay Volunteer Fire Department Chief advises only a tanker truck was requested, Laird Township is in favour of paying for that service. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 34-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Donna Connolly that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
