MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 73 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N MAY 5, 2010
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

Jennifer Rose, Dan Richards, and Peggy Lund or API spoke to Council about yearly activities. Fortess now owns API, Fortess is a Canadian company. To find out how long power is to be out you must call the system control at # 941-5654.

ON MOTION (No. 71-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves council minutes of April 21, 2010. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 72-10) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council approves general accounts to May 5, 2010 as presented in the amount of $8,825.45. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 73-10) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Todd Rydall council closes the next portion of the meeting to discuss personal issues with regards to roadways. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 74-10) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Wayne Junor that council returns to open meeting. CARRIED

Councilor Chuck Frenette declares conflict on Calabogie Road issue, due to past history with property owner. Council looked over letter first.

ON MOTION (No. 75-10) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council requests Michael Allemano communicate with property owner on Calabogie Road that council intends to have ditch cleaned out again and total costs will be invoiced to property owner. Costs for legal will also be invoiced. Any harassing of machine operation will be dealt with immediately by O.P.P. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 76-10) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Todd Rydall that council invoices property owner on Government Road for actual costs of $702.80 for culvert replacement. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 77-10) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council removes asphalt between concrete pads at South end, and advises Laird International Raceway that should it want to alter grounds, the municipality must be consulted for its approval. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 78-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council retenders for Laird Hall roof, completion date to be November 15, 2010. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 79-10) of Chuck Frenette, seconded by Todd Rydall that council authorizes payment of $50.00 to each CASS graduate from the Township of Laird. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 80-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council writes off interest/tax amounts under $5.00 for total of $14.83. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 81-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council authorizes a donation of $200.00 to the Echo Bay Elks for fireworks display on July 1, 2010. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 82-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Chuck Frenette that council approves amalgamated tender in the amount of $84,047.95. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 83-10) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council supports Algoma Public Health in its efforts to have an International School of Environment established in Sault Ste. Marie. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 84-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council asks the Algoma District Municipal Association to investigate MPACs news release of April 29, 2010 in which it asserts that a tentative settlement has been reached with OPSEU which results in no increase in salaries or overall benefits for 2010 and 2011. Does this freeze on salary costs apply to non-union as well as bonuses paid out to non-union. And further more, since an anticipated 6.5% increase was offered to OPEU over four years, and would have been reflected in the 2010 levy established in December 2009, would municipalities now be seeing a decrease in the 2010 levy? CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 85-10) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council meeting to be adjourned. CARRIED
