MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 1 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N DECEMBER 3, 2014
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.


All recently elected members of council were sworn in by the Clerk. Mayor Beitz welcomed all councillors and spoke of the future, road projects and recreational possibilities with property on Finns' Bay Road North.

ON MOTION (No. 184-14) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves council minutes of November 12, 2014, as presented. CARRIED

Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional Township (MMAA) is to be requested to give its opinion on decreasing the speed on Bar River Road East, from the Village to Cemetery Road to 60km/hr.

Road Superintendent Hunter presented council with an option of renting a tractor with boom mower to use in ditching operations. MMAA will be asked about sharing such a piece of equipment.

ON MOTION (No. 185-14) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council approves general accounts to December 3, 2014 as presented in the amount of $58,182.62. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 186-14) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves road accounts to October 31, 2014 as presented in the amount of $37,930.84. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 187-14) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves By-law Number 956-14 with Agreement, for By-law Enforcement and Property Standards Officer, Tyler Bertrand. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 188-14) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Wayne Junor that council authorizes Mayor Beitz vote for Lorraine Aelick and Lynne Watson for Algoma District Services Administrative Board members, and appoints Mayor Beitz as voting representative. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 189-14) of Frank Turco, seconded by Ed Lapish that council supports resolution of Municipality of McDougall in petitioning the Provincial Government to establish a funding formula for Ontario Provincial Police contracts whereby the base amount would be 40% and calls for service set at 60%. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 190-14) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council supports the nomination of Lee Mason as representative for our area on the Algoma Public Health Board. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 191-14) of Frank Turco, seconded by Todd Rydall that council confirms Wayne Junor as council representative and Allen Prodan as community representative on the Desbarats to Echo Bay Planning Board. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 192-14) of Frank Turco, seconded by Ed Lapish that council supports the nomination of Girlie Collings as representative for North Shore Area on the Dr. H. S. Trefry Memorial Centre. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 193-14) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council confirms Wayne Junor as Deputy Mayor for the Council of the Township of Laird should Mayor Beitz by unavailable. CARRIED

ON MOTION (NO. 194-14) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council closes the next portion of the meeting to discuss a personal issue. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 195-14) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council returns to open meeting. CARRIED

It was the consensus of council to have the road department remove debris from wetland area on Finns' Bay Road North.

ON MOTION (No. 196-14) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Todd Rydall that council issues order to Townline Road residents regarding tarp barn constructed without a permit, and also issue an order for 117 Finns' Bay Road North for building constructed without permit. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 197-14) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Wayne Junor that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
