MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 31 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N AUGUST 24, 2016
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

ON MOTION (No. 119-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves council minutes of July 27, 2016, as presented with correction of spelling and suggested amendments. CARRIED

Discussion took place on electrical wires and water lines being placed across Finns' Bay Road North.

ON MOTION (No. 120-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves road accounts to June 30, 2016 as presented in the amount of $84,508.37. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 121-16) of Frank Turco, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves general accounts to August 24, 2016 as presented in the amount of $61,920.83. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 122-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council along with Chief Building Official's recommendation set the building permit fee for 229 MacDonald Drive at $5,000. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 123-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves By-law Number 980-16 as presented, combining Lots 19 and 20, Plan M350. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 124-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Frank Turco that council obtains a sign for the wharf property that establishes rules such as no overnight camping and no camp fires. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 125-16) of Frank Turco, seconded by Wayne Junor that council supports MP Cheryl Gallant's efforts to object to unfair tax treatment of tourism small businesses. CARRIED

A newsletter was discussed. Such items as Canada Cares Caregiver Award, 2016 tax distribution and request for comments, accompanied by information, etc., on proposed Rules-Guidelines for use of horse arena and surrounding area could be included.

Councillor Lapish spoke on the state of the fairgrounds and asked what Laird International Raceway Inc. may have for future plans. Once the pull sled is returned from Bruce Mines it will be stored indoors, as previously discussed.

Kelly Fremlin asked if the letter she presented to Mayor Beitz, just as the meeting commenced, would be looked at. She was informed that it was not on the agenda.

Sheri Fudge asked council if they were going to respond to her e-mail of August 14, 2016. She was assured that it would be answered, but as the e-mail contained personal information, it would be dealt with in a closed portion of the meeting.

Councillors were given information from its insurance broker regarding risks associated with municipal rental properties, as well as a sample check list that may be used to accomplish the recommendations given.

(ON MOTION No. 126-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council closes the next portion of the meeting to discuss property issues as well as personal issues. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 127-16) of Wayne Junor, seconded by Ed Lapish that council returns to open meeting. CARRIED

Mayor Beitz will enquire of a groomer for the horse arena.

ON MOTION (No. 128-16) of Frank Turco, seconded by Wayne Junor that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
