MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 33 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N SEPTEMBER 21, 2016
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

ON MOTION (No. 136-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves council minutes of September 7, 2016, as presented. CARRIED

Henry Goertzen spoke to council on construction of a cenotaph.

ON MOTION (No. 137-16) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Frank Turco that council agrees to investigate construction of a cenotaph for the Township of Laird. CARRIED

Mr. Goertzen also spoke of council's thanking a local citizen for efforts in supporting the community but others were not. He also commented on proposed rules for the arena. Kelly Fremlin and Darryl Brumfield also spoke to council about proposed rules and regulations for the arena at the Laird fairgrounds.

ON MOTION (No. 138-16) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Todd Rydall that council closes the next portion of the meeting to discuss a personal issue regarding alleged fairgrounds entrance closure, and Laird International Raceway's distress. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 139-16) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Todd Rydall that council opens the meeting to the public. CARRIED

Henry Goertzen attended the closed meeting to advise of opinion on a specific staff member.

ON MOTION (No. 139-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Frank Turco that council returns to open meeting. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 140-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Frank Turco that council closes off discussion on perceived inconsistencies that allegedly occurred at the Laird fairgrounds, August 9, 2016, and will not entertain anything further regarding this issue. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 141-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Frank Turco that council approves general accounts to September 21, 2016 as presented in the amount of $10,073.69. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 142-16) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves road accounts to August 31, 2016 as presented in the amount of $154,496.36. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 143-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council receives responses to September Newsletter regarding arena, and give them over to the Laird Fairgrounds Management Board for consideration and recommendation. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 144-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council agrees that the key to the North Shore Agricultural Society's "office", on Laird fairgrounds property, be supplied to the municipality. CARRIED

The procurement of a defibrillator to be used for rentals at the fairgrounds is to be investigated.

Cemetery monument firms will be asked to quote on requirements for repairs at the Laird cemetery.

Councillor Turco reported on his findings regarding property across Finns' Bay Road North, to the back of the wharf property.

ON MOTION (No. 145-16) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Todd Rydall that council starts the process of investigating the possibility of replacing the bridge on Lapish Road. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 146-16) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
