MINUTES OF MEETING NUMBER 48 OF
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD
HELD 0N MAY 3, 2017
AT THE LAIRD TOWNSHIP OFFICE
AT 7:30 P.M.

Councillor Turco declared a conflict of interest on item 3 b) on agenda of May 3, 2017.

ON MOTION (No. 73-17) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Todd Rydall that council approves council minutes of April 19, and recreation committee minutes of March 28, 2017, as presented. CARRIED

Edith Orr of Huron North Community Economic Alliance reviewed the benefits of joining such an organization with council. Assistance with grant applications and access to Ministries are a few of the benefits. Costs associated with membership will be reviewed at the time of budget deliberations.

James Kemp, Ontario Public Service Employees Union mobilizer spoke to council about petitioning the province to retain ownership of its assets.

ON MOTION (No. 74-17) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council supports OPSEU's resolution regarding public assets being sold off. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 75-17) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves general accounts to May 3, 2017 as presented in the amount of $4,806.88. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 76-17) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council approves a donation of $2 per capital to Matthews Memorial Hospital Association, for doctor recruitment. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 77-17) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Frank Turco that council approves donations of $50 per Laird student graduating from Grade 12 at CASS, and $25 per Laird student graduating from Grade 8 at CAES. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 78-18) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council supports resolution of Adjala-Tosoronto Township in petitioning both Federal and Provincial Governments exempt the sale of Canadian flags from HST. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 79-17) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Frank Turco that council accepts proposal of Triple M Metal for collection of Metal waste at the municipal waste disposal site, as presented. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 80-17) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council supports resolution of Lanark County in petitioning the Provincial Government enhance local initiatives in dealing with opioid addiction. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 81-17) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Todd Rydall, that council closes the next portion of the meeting to discuss property and personal issues. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 82-17) of Ed Lapish, seconded by Frank Turco that council returns to open meeting. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No. 83-17) of Todd Rydall, seconded by Ed Lapish that council employs Brenda Aelick as Admin, Planning and Tax Assistant for position of maternity leave, with a three-month probationary period. CARRIED

ON MOTION (No.84-17) of Todd Ryall, seconded by Ed Lapish that the council meeting be adjourned. CARRIED
