LAIRD TOWNSHIP Community Website Township Office 3 Pumpkin Point Road R.R. #4 Echo Bay, Ontario, Canada P0S 1C0 Phone: (705) 248-2395 Fax: (705) 248-1138 TOWNSHIP OF LAIRD DISPOSAL SITE NEWS October 7, 2008 The Township of Laird would like to advise its residents and ratepayers that the Ministry of Environment completed an inspection at the disposal site and a number of issues must be addressed. Changes are going to be made at the site over the next few months. A sign will be placed adjacent the burning area that indicates ONLY clean wood and brush will be accepted for burning. Other signs will be put up indicating areas for dumping metal, aluminum, tires, asphalt shingles, propane tanks, etc. Refuse MUST be separated and deposited in specific areas so as to not fill up the dump face with material that can be recycled. Remember to take all hazardous household waste to the depot at 115 Industrial Park Crescent, Sault Ste. Marie, before it closes (for this year) on October 25th. The recycling bins at the entrance to the disposal site are a costly expenditure, and council is pleased that they are well used. However, people are still not FLATTENING cardboard before placing in the bin. When you place cardboard in the bin without flattening it you are denying others the opportunity to use the bin as it fills more quickly than necessary. PLEASE, take the time to take cardboard boxes apart or flatten them, and cut larger pieces into smaller units before disposing of them. This simple gesture will go a long way in keeping the bin from filling up. The foregoing are not suggested procedures to be followed when using the disposal site, but MANDATORY.
